Another year has come and gone and although a lot has changed, too much is still the same. The storage boxes in the garage have gone another year untouched. The weight you swore you were gonna lose has made a permanent residence on your hips, rendering half the contents of your closet worthless.
And you ... here you sit, 12 months of lounging around with nothing to show for it. You're in a rut, so Happy Freaking New Year.
While the temptation to wallow in self-pity and laziness may seem alluring, you will get no satisfaction from it. No sense of accomplishment or peace. The weight of all the unused and useless junk lying around will just get heavier and heavier every year.
So instead of packing on more pounds by crashing on the couch and binge-watching Game of Thrones, in an effort to forget about all of the things you should do, take action. Clean out the internal gutter of crapola you have stored, tucked, and hidden away for years. It's good for you, like going to the dentist; although the process might hurt a little, once you're done you’ll feel great. Well, not great, but clean at least.
It's not really that hard. Start in your closet. Accept the fact that after 5 years of not dieting or exercising, those 10 pounds are just not going anywhere and get rid of anything that doesn’t fit. You’ll actually feel better about yourself once the reminder of you pre-four-kids-body has left the building. It's an out of sight out of mind thing.
Then go through some of your other rooms and storage closets, anything you haven’t touched in the last year gets the boot. Let it take up someone's space and brain power.
Then hit the garage. The boxes of things you think you’ll want or need take up more space than your car, but you haven’t opened them since you moved in. Read the writing on the wall, you don’t need them. Grab all that junk, and pile it up. If you want, you can sort it, sell it and donate it, but you don’t have to. Just pile it up, and we’ll come to get it. We’ll donate and recycle anything we can, taking only the most useless garbage to the dump.
After its all gone, a new wave of energy and efficacy will engulf you. You might even want to leave the house and catch a movie, or a round of golf. Whatever you do, just don’t go shopping. You finally got rid of everything don’t junk up your house again.
This New Year, AZ Junk wants to help you achieve your declutter resolutions, so we are offering a 20% discount on all cleanouts, including garage, backyard, storage unit and curbside pickups.
Don’t be a Leslie Knope, be a Monica Geller. Just focus and declutter then the rest will fall into place.
